-Math worksheet

After we began watching a video from Bill Nye the science guy about simple machines.

Then we went to PE with Miss Yustin.

After PE we had math, for math today we looked at representing equal parts of a set as fractions.

This means that we are learning to realise that 5 tenths is also a half, or 2 eigths is also a quarter.

We started off with a problem

Alexa has 6 pennies she gave half to Rayen. How many pennies did she give Rayen?
Students were able to identify that she gave three to Rayen using division, so now we have also connected fraction to division because they are equal  groups!

We did a few problems together and modeled different fractions.

The first thing we did was figure out what the question was asking us so if it asked us to find one third of the set we know we have to create three equal groups.
Here's a breakdown of what we did.

We did a few examples before going to work on our worksheets.
We also did one of the word problems together. It is important that when we are drawing our set that we organise the pictures.

Then we had first lunch and recess. Mr. Nahi had something to pull a rope and students all called out IT'S A PULLEY...I love the connection to real lift!

After recess we finished the rest of the Bill Nye video then we had our Valentine's Day activities.
sharing cards

yum lol

I made some rice krispy squares that some students enjoyed; our friends that cannot eat marshmallows received another treat, and chocolate strawberries from Amar and his family.

Then we went to French with Mme. Stella.

After we had second lunch and recess.

After recess we continued with our Valentine's Day packages and then had a house game before hometime.

The task was to guess how many craft hearts were in a jar.
Kappa won
Theta came in second
Zeta came in third.

Have a lovely evening!
