100th day

Today is the 100th day of school!

Have a look at us when we are 100.

Who's the real Justin Trudeau?

We had a house game at morning announcements

The object of the game was to knock over the water bottle with a pantyhose on your head and inside of it a tennis ball.

Myself, and Mrs Khan went for the Theta teachers

For the students Zeta won with Kappa in second and Theta in third. For the teachers Zeta won, with Theta in second and Kappa in third.

After was the pancake eating contest.
Zeta won, Theta second, Kappa third.

After we had PE with Miss Yustin.

Before starting our new math lesson we reviewed yesterday's lesson and asked how many tenths make a half [5], how many quarters make a half [2], etc.

For math today we learned how to represent fractions as parts of a set.
We started off with a group of students at the front.
We asked
How many students are there? [8] so we are working with eighths
We asked what fraction of them are boys [2] so we have two eights. What fraction are girls [6] so we have 6 eighths. We modeled how to write this down as numbers and words:
two eights - 2/8
six eighths - 6/8

We did a few more examples one with four students up, which consisted of 2 boys and 2 girls. Interestingly we figured out that 2/4 is the same as 1/2 WOW. So we could also just say two quarters is also one half. Nice work!!!

After students worked on making a fractionpillar. The were given their success criteria
-Must consist of two colours
-Must have between 5-10 circles
-Fill in the boxes to show the fractional parts
-Once that is done you get your eye, and can add the legs and antenna!

They are on display come have a look!

After we consolidated by looking at representing more fractional parts.
Students helped complete the fishbowl question.
Then we proceeded to work on their worksheet.

At recess have a look at what most of the grade two's are working on. They have really been working hard and showing teamwork. Some of the 3-6's are helping at their recess too!

After we continued to work on writing our banana explanations.

Then we went to music with Mr. Oliver and French with Mme. Stella.

After we had second lunch and recess.

When we came back inside we finished up our banana explanation.

Students that were done worked on writing about either,
'If I had one hundred dollars' or 'When I am one hundred'

Then we had our challenges.

The first one was
-How many times can you write your name in 100seconds

We also had a 100 seconds staring contest, without blinking!

Then a few rounds of frozen statues for 100 seconds

100 squats

LOL - He held it for 100 seconds wow!

Balanced - holding the poses

AND....
100 SQUATS AND 100 PUSH UPS. 😅

Have a lovely evening.
