After we did Daily 5!

After Daily 5 we went to PE with Mrs. Jans.

After we went to the book fair to browse books. If students brought money they were able to make purchases.

When we returned we began math.

Today's lesson was on using arrays to divide.

We began reviewing what we learned yesterday by forming division sentences with groups on the board.

We learned some new terms today

Dividend: is the number we divide; it is usually the largest number
Divisor: The number we are dividing by
Quotient: The result

So when we are using an array the divisor is the number of rows and the quotient is how many are in each row.

We practiced 6 'counters' to form an array in multiple ways.
First we made 2 rows or three and created our division sentence (see above photo). Then we formed 6 rows  the six counters to make our division sentence (6÷6=1)

After we practiced with the number 18! Since there were 18 of us including me we formed arrays within the classroom.
Since we know there are 18 of us (18 is the dividend) I asked them to get into rows of two (so two is the divisor). We modeled how to form our array one by one and realised that the quotient will be 9 (9 students in each row!)
We also created three rows and realised the quotient is 6.

After we worked on our worksheet. There is also a small division practice package for the weekend.

For language today we had our spelling test.
The bonus words were:
1) snuggle

2) stocking
3) scare
4) smile
5) strong

After we went to music with Mr. Oliver and French with Mme. Stella.

After recess we had some reflection times and a few minutes of golden time  after we had another practice rehearsal for the Christmas Concert.

Have a lovely weekend!
