Then we did Daily 5.
We modeled how to appropriately construct a response to a question. We used a Raz-Kids example
What was the author's message in 'How Zebras got their Stripes?'
The author's message is to be patient. [we also have to provide examples from the text] The zebras did not wait their turn and they knocked over the bucket of paint so they could not get stripes.
After, students read on Raz-Kids, with a buddy or to their self and answered comprehension questions related to their text.
There was no PE today as there are student-led conferences all day for specialist teachers.
After we started math. Today we learned that grouping and sharing can be used to divide and to divide is to separate in equal parts.
We also said is multiplication is repeated addition division is like repeated subtraction.
We looked at sharing cookies between people.
I modeled how 6 cookies can be equally divided among three people.
The answer is how many cookies each person received.
I modeled that when we are sharing we have to do it one by one.
After we created our division sentence.
6÷3=2
The greater number always goes first just like subtraction.
Jad then explained how to divide 12 cookies among 4 people.
Each person received 3 cookies.
He also wrote his division sentence 12÷4=3
After we used fruit loops to figure out how many ways 18 could be divided.
Here is what student's came up with.
After we went to lunch and recess.
When we returned we worked on completing our conference package to prepare for tonight and rehearsing to a partner.
We did some energisers in between.
Then we went to second lunch and recess.
When we returned we finished our final preparations for tonight and then began UOI. We talked about what holidays are and what traditions are, and brainstormed traditions to go along with holidays.
Some of our ideas were:
Christmas - go to Church to pray, give out presents, decorate a Christmas tree
Hanukah - light the Menorah (candle)
Ramadan - fast (means that you cannot eat or drink)
We will be learning more traditions for other cultures as the unit progresses.
After I asked the students if they heard of Secret Santa, some have and some students havent which is okay! We explained that its mean your draw a name of a person and have to buy a gift and then they have to guess who bought them the gift.
I explained that we are doing our own within the class, but a little differently. For our Secret Santa we drew names and for that person we have to perform acts of kindness for that person, and on the last day before holidays they will get to guess who drew their name.
We learned that traditions are typical what people do to celebrate certain holidays.
went to browse the book fair.
After we got ready for home.
See you tonight!
