Here is a friendly note from our friend at Oakwood Academy
Kindness Day is celebrated nationwide annually, on the 13th of November. It is a day to celebrate and promote kindness in all its forms. World Kindness Day falls on the same day and unites people in kindness globally.
On November 13th, St. Jude's Academy is celebrating World Kindness Day by encouraging all students to share kind words to each other and unite as a whole school with their neighbours at Oakwood. By bringing in $2, students can participate in a special World Kindness Day event by writing a kind message or quote on a leaf and then post it on our World Kindness Tree for all to see. In addition to sharing their kind words, they will be supporting their neighbours at Oakwood and also be allowed to dress casually.
As part of a united world school, IB learners strive to be kind everyday. This year, we are looking forward to emphasizing and celebrating acts of kindness on Monday, November 13th and we hope everyone is able to participate in our World Kindness Day events!
Thank you!

Just a reminder that I won't be here tomorrow, I'll be away coaching our elementary co-ed flag football team at a tournament. I have left detailed lesson plans and everything will be ready to go for the cover teacher. Spelling and cursive will be tomorrow.
At announcements we had a few students go up to recite the Guy Fawkes poem. Aashrith went up and recited the poem.
When we came back to class we had a few other friends recite the poem.
We had some friends help others out
After we went to PE with Mrs. Jans
For math we started our new unit: Sorting and Data Management, we looked at sorting by two attributes today.
Last week before the pre-assessment I drew a Venn diagram and asked what they think it is...I got replies such as the Olympic rings that were incomplete, or the Audi sign. ๐๐ Today they were able to say its a Venn Diagram!
We started off discussing what attributes are; they are characteristics or properties of an object or number (size, colour, shape, etc)
We discussed how one side of the venn diagram sorts one attribute, and the other side sorts another attribute. In the middle, we have both attributes. That is why we are sorting by two attributes.
We used hula hoops and shapes to sort objects. We started off basic: red and black, triangles and squares...but then we moved on to sort into two attributes where we can have objects sorted in the middle which share both attributes.
We used the hula hoops:
One category was BIG SHAPES, and the other was RED SHAPES, and in the middle it is BIG AND RED shapes. (So small red shapes go with the red shapes, and big, black shapes go with the big shapes.
Each student was given a shape to sort, some student's shapes did not fit and they had to explain to me why it didn't gfit.
After, our activity we went to our worksheets. I have handed out another homework sheet for tomorrow as well.
Tomorrow we will be doing activity centers to get us excited for some new concepts in our new unit. (Like GRAPHS too!)
Then, it was time for lunch and recess.
For language today, we finished reading chapter 2 of Song Lee in Room 2b.
When reading I use strategies such as thinking aloud, making predictions, visualising, making inferences (using my knowledge to help me make meaning of what's in the text) and reciprocal reading.
After we discussed and answered our comprehension questions as a class. We discussed how to reply in full sentences using evidence from the text.
How did Song Lee overcome her shyness?
Song Lee overcame her shyness for her presentation by making a tree to stand behind and present.
We then acted out the chapter in small groups.
We then had a few more participants recite the Guy Fawkes poem.
We also discussed Remembrance Day and what it means and began to colour in a poppy.
After we went to second lunch and recess.
French was cancelled today.
When we returned we had UOI.
Today we finished off our journal writing of how we would feel if we had to move to another country. The challenge was to discuss if it was a push or a pull and which category it belong to.
Since our Mom got a new job in a new country it is an economic pull factor!
Then we discussed our UOI summative. Students will need time at home to interview a family or friend about their migration story.
Finally, we got ready for home!
I will be posting the spelling words today even thought they are doing the lesson tomorrow.
