Happy Friday!

Today's agenda notes are:
-Read for 20 mins
-Library Survey
-Sign and return math test
-Practice Guy Fawkes Poem
-Bring in buttons (if you have any to spare)

After we started our novel study titled "Song Lee in Room 2b." We started off making predictions about that book. We looked at the cover, the blurb at the back and did a picture walk through of the few pictures in this chapter book. I hinted that this is related to our UOI unit.

Many students in pairs made predictions about the book being about bullying, some made predictions about Song Lee being scared in a new school, and some said that it was about migration...because that is one of our lines of inquiry.

Afterwards we had PE with Mrs. Jans.

After PE we had math. Today for math we had our math pre-assessment for the new unit. Sorting and Data Management. We talked about what sorting means, and data management. Then we went through the test together to understand some of the questions. Before starting, we reviewed what venn-diagrams are and how they are used for sorting, how to read pictographs and some new vocabulary they may not have heard before.

I reminded them this is a pre-assessment and it is for me to see what they know already so if they don't know something we can try another question. So as to not stress over it!

After the pre-assessment we had lunch and recess.

For our spelling test today the bonus words were:
11. social
12. train
13. streetcar
14. country
15. community

All are related to our current or past unit of inquiry.

Afterwards we started reading chapter 1 of our novel study. Song Lee in Room 2b.

Then we went to music with Mr. Oliver and French with Mme. Stella.

Afterwards it was second lunch and recess.

When we returned we swapped classroom jobs for the month of November. After, we had our class monthly draw. For October Esha, Alexa, and Alister were the draw winners.  It was great to see our classmates supporting each other and cheering for their winners. We reminded each other that if we didn't win...it's just not our turn yet and there is still 8 months left so everyone will get their turn eventually.

Have a lovely weekend.

Please see a note from Oakwood:

November 13th is World Kindness Day!

We are asking St. Jude’s students to join in celebrating  this day and spread kindness to one another and support their neighbours at Oakwood Academy as well! By donating $2.00, each participant can purchase an Oak Leaf, share a kind message to anyone of their choice and place it on  a school-wide  Kindness Tree.

All proceeds will go to supporting Oakwood Academy’s program development and the purchasing of new supplies defraying costs to families.

Each St. Jude’s student who purchases an Oak leaf will be allowed to dress casually on November 13th as well.

Teachers will be provided with Oak Leaves for each student (each student can ask for more than one ($2 a leaf, or $5 for 4), During their lunch hour they can pin their leaves to the Kindness Tree.
