After agendas we had spelling. This week will be a review of lessons 7-11. The test on Friday could be any 10 of those words with another 5 bonus words related to topics we are learning in class. Students have been given a sheet with all of the spelling words.
After we had PE with Mrs. Jans.
When we returned we had math.
Today's lesson was on conducting a survey
We talked about what a survey is.
A survey is used to find out information about something.
What do we need to make a survey?
A question and possible answers that our audience could respond to.
We came up with a few questions and possible answers
What is your favourite sport?
What is your favourite colour?
What is your favourite pet?
Then we listed 4-5 possible answers for each questions. Why? Because our audience needs choice or else they won't know what to respond to or we could have too many topics.
Students worked in pairs to choose a question, or make up their own with choices and then surveyed their classmates.
After they completed the survey they had to graph their data using a bar graph.
We went over the success criteria for a graph:
-Scale
-Title
-Labels
-Numbers
-Straight lines
After they finished their graphs they went on to complete their worksheet. The worksheet involved more surveys so they collected data and they will have to interpret the data for homework if they didn't finish in class.
Then we went to first lunch and recess.
After recess, we did the final observation of our rock candy.
The HOT water grew the most rock crystals!
We discussed why the hot water grew the fastest. It is because in hot water the particles move the fastest, the sugar (solvent) was able to dissolve faster in the water (solute) Therefore the crystals grew the best in hot temperatures.
We then compared our hypotheses to our conclusion.
After we went to music, French then second lunch and recess.
When we returned from recess, we had a community circle to reaffirm our classroom rules. We discussed working together, and sharing kind words.
After we worked on our UOI summatives. Please bring in any materials your child might need to prepare for their presentation.
Have a good night!
