1st of November!

Hope everyone is recovered from their Halloween!

We will be donating any leftover candy or candy you don't want to the Food Bank so please bring it in by Friday if you wish to donate it.

Welcome to a new month!

Today's agenda notes are:
-Read for 20 mins
-Math unit test tmw (study and review)
-Complete math review
-Cursive up to pg 37 (Due Fri)
-Spelling pg. 38-40 (Due Fri)

Then we finished up our letter recount from yesterday about our weekend.

Next, we went to PE with Mrs. Jans.

After PE we had our final day of math review. We started off with some of our friends finding the sum and difference of some math problems using the standard algorithm.

We then worked on our review package. If it was not completed it has been sent home. Some students have been working closely with me carefully on each question. We spoke about the importance of completing this package to help with the test tomorrow.

After math we practiced our Guy Fawkes poem. A hard copy of the poem has been sent home to practice, here is the poem.

Remember, remember the 5th of November.
The Gunpowder Treason and plot;
I know of no reason why Gunpowder Treason
Should even be forgot.

Guy Fawkes, Guy Fawkes,
'Twas his intent.
To blow up the King and the Parliament.
Three score barrels of powder below.
Poor old England to overthrow.
By God's providence he was catch'd,
With a dark lantern and burning match

Holloa, boys, Holloa boys, let the bells ring
Holloa boys, Holloa boys, God save the King!

Hip hip Hoorah!
Hip hip Hoorah!

Next week on November 6th house points will be given for students that can recite this poem on their own in front of the school and/or in front of our class.

Then we had first lunch and recess.

After lunch and recess we did shared writing of another recount letter. This letter was to Jordan who was absent yesterday so we recounted what we did yesterday and highlighted what made a successful letter and recount.

Then we went to music with Mr. Oliver and French with Mme. Stella.

For UOI today we worked on using emotive language. They asked what emotive means. We broke it down from emotive to emotion and then to EMOJI and they all realised emoji's show feelings so emotive means to show strong feelings in our writing.

We described a possible scenario. You go home from school today, and your Mom has a new job in a new country where they don't speak English. The weather is unbearably hot and you don't want to move at all! You have to leave your friends, pets, and toys behind to make new friends at a school where they don't speak English. The rest of your cousins, aunts, and uncles are staying in Canada. How would you feel?

We brainstormed a list of feelings and some reasons for these feelings, and then worked on our writing.

We finished off the day by handing out agendas and getting ready for home. Please check your e-mail for a very important e-mail!
