Also Alister announced to the school about his food drive, that he planned as part of his UOI project. Aashrith is also helping to organise the food drive, and all of the grade 2's will be helping these students. Aryana helped Alister speak in front of the school as Aashrith was not here yet. Way to be risk takers!

Also, new book orders have been sent home and the students who ordered last month received their order today.
Then we went to PE with Mrs. Jans.
After PE we had math. We reviewed double digit addition (without carrying over) using the base ten blocks and standard algorithm and then we moved on to double digit addition with carrying over.
There were ten ones so we traded them for 1 tens unit instead and that's why it's now represented in the tens place.
We used base ten blocks to show that when there is 10 or more ones in the ones place we have to trade it in for a tens unit so that means carrying over.
We did a few problems together before going to our worksheet. Some students stayed with me on the carpet to work more closely with guided practice on using the base ten blocks and then moving to the standard algorithm.
We will be spending some more time on this. A homework sheet has been sent home and I also found this fun game to play online to practice double digit addition:

After math it was first lunch and recess.
After recess we had literacy. We reviewed the letter format, and co-constructed our concluding sentence. We also highlighted some special sentence openers to help us in our writing.
I marked and corrected their letters from yesterday and gave them feedback to improve. They were given time to do that and then received a letter template for their polished work. Also house points for using the word migrate in their letter.
Then it was time for music and French.
Then we had second lunch and recess.
After recess we continued polishing our letters. After we talked about descriptive writing and adding details to our sentences through using adjectives. I read a short blurb about aliens that landed and we brainstormed adjectives to describe their head, eyes, ears, body, smell, and how they sound.

Today Quinntin also got to go to the SK to read to them as part of his UOI project. He is sharing his talent of reading to younger students! Great work Quinntin!
Then we hand out our agendas, book orders and homework and got ready for home!
