Terrific Thursday!

Thursday!

Today's agenda notes were:

-Spelling pg 30-33
-Cursive up to pg 30
-Read for 20 mins
-Math worksheet
-Trip Oct 24th, Picture Day Oct 26th
-Food drive due Oct 26th
-For Alexa and Hunter - bring lunch and snacks and warm clothes for tomorrow's cross country meet


Today we sent the cards and toys with Aashyra's Dad who will be handing them to Sick Kids Hospital! Thank you so much so taking them for us Mr. Ahuja!


After agendas for morning work we wrote our descriptive paragraph about the aliens from yesterdays brainstorm. Then we went to PE with Mrs. Jans.

After PE we had math, today we looked at adding with regrouping and started subtracting with regrouping. We will be working on these operations tomorrow again.

We started off with addition (with and without regrouping). A couple of students helped explain their thinking.

Rayna and Esha both drew pictures and helped explain that we can't have more than 9 in the ones column so we have to carry it over to the tens.

Then we used our base ten blocks to model subtraction with regrouping.

We learned our chant: more on top, no need to stop...more on the floor, go next door (BORROW!)

 We modeled with base ten blocks how to borrow from the tens column and add it to the ones column.
You cannot take away 9 from four, so you have to go next door and borrow a tens unit and exchange it for 10 ones. Then you can carry out your subtraction operations from the ones to the tens.

The police! They were able to ask questions about helping the community! It was a perfect fit for our last UOI unit.

After we had first lunch and recess.

When we returned, we had literacy. For literacy since we are working on letter writing. We re-read the book "The Day the Crayons Quit" Before reading I told them to think of a crayon they want to be because they will also be writing a letter to Duncan! After reading we talked about the letter format, and writing with details (thinking about how the character is feeling, and adjectives)

We are still working on our rough draft and will be polishing up the work tomorrow!

Then we went to French with Mme. Stella.

After French we had second lunch and recess.

To end the day we had UOI today we looked at the evolution of transportation from then to now. We discussed how modes of transportation have changed. For example NOW there are cars, and THEN there were carriages. We compared each mode of transportation and listed reasons why one is better or more evolved. (like Pokemon)

Students then completed their worksheet picking modes of transportation from THEN to NOW and discussed them in detail.

Finally, to end the day we handed out agendas and homework and got ready for home.
