Thursday!

Today's notes for agendas are:

-Cursive and Spelling books due back tomorrow
-Book order
-Read for 20 minutes
-Food drive donation (Oct 3)
-Math worksheet (please note  - the whole package doesn't need to be complete we are working on review for our upcoming test on Monday)
-Orange shirt day tomorrow!
-International Day materials
-Recorder Money/Form

Then we went on to our daily 5 stations! The books we are reading are leveled books similar to Raz-Kids. Depending on the station students are working on different tasks. They rotate between reading to a buddy, reading on their own, listening to reading, word work, and reading with me.

After that they went to PE with Mrs. Jans.

After PE we began our math review. Our Math test will be on Monday. We will be reviewing and doing activities to reinforce the concepts we have learned! Only the first page of the package sent home needs to be completed though they may complete the entire sheet if they wish.

Today students worked on correcting all of our previous math worksheets and we reviewed our concepts which are:
-Skip counting using a hundreds chart, and beyond hundreds
-Counting on a number line
-Modelling 2 digit and 3 digit numbers
-Ordinal numbers
-Comparing and ordering numbers
-Rounding numbers

When students were finished they started their review package.

After math we had first lunch and recess...with another bake sale.

After we had literacy. As we are working on forming sentences. Today we looked at compound sentences and using conjunctions such as "and" "so" and "but" to make two short sentences into a compound sentence. We started to model and practice writing these sentences.

Next the students had music with Mr. Oliver, and then French with Mme. Stella.

Then it was time for second lunch and recess.

After recess we discussed Orange Shirt Day. We had a very rich discussion about residential schools and why we have Orange Shirt Day. We created our orange shirts with "Every Child Matters" on it, they designed their shirts and they are hanging up outside our classroom.

"What is Orange Shirt Day?
Orange Shirt Day is a legacy of the St. Joseph Mission (SJM) residential school commemoration event held in Williams Lake, BC, Canada, in the spring of 2013.  It grew out of Phyllis' story of having her shiny new orange shirt taken away on her first day of school at the Mission, and it has become an opportunity to keep the discussion on all aspects of residential schools happening annually. "

Then it was time for home!

Remember to wear an orange shirt tomorrow!

Have a wonderful night!
