After agendas students went to their Daily 5 stations, some students were able to use their tablets to read on Raz Kids.
I introduced the students to our bean jar, which is a jar that will be filled with beans when we follow our classroom rules and are caring and kind classmates in and out of the class. When we reach the first line we get extra golden time/recess. The second line is being decided after hearing their voices, the third line and the top of the jar is a class jar.
Then we went to PE with Mrs. Jans.
After PE we had math. During math we learned about ordinal numbers. We lined up in order from tallest to shortest and called out our place in line. Ordinal numbers determine the position of something in a list.
We then looked at a calendar and created a chart and realised that "th" is usually the ending but for first, second, and third it's a little bit different. Then we worked in our workbooks to find the ordinal numbers for letters in the alphabet, months of the year, and certain numbers on the hundreds chart.
After we had first lunch and recess (inside - heat wave in Sept?)
After recess we had literacy. We started off with spelling. We discussed what vowels are to figure out the words, opposites, rhymes, and full sentences.
Then we moved on to cursive writing.
After cursive we looked at sentences. We looked at how complete sentences are formed, and arranging sentences into the proper order.
Then we went to French with Mme. Stella.
After French, we had second lunch and recess (indoors again 😎)
After recess we took some time to discuss how we want to present our international day research.
Then we had UOI. We looked at an introduction to wants and needs. Before we talked about what we think they are. After watching the Berenstein Bears and the Gimmies we were able to have a rich discussion about what a want is, and what is a need. We brainstormed a list of wants which included things like candy, and toys. Needs are things we need for survival like healthy food, and water). We related this to our upcoming visit to the food bank how we are giving people some needs.
I challenged the students to ask their parents next time they go shopping to ask you is this a want or a need?
