Today we started off our day with agendas. Today's notes are:
-Bake sale
-Book order
-Read for 20 minutes
-Welcome back BBQ form
-Math Package
-International Day research
-Toonie for Terry
-Food drive item
When they were finished agendas they proceeded to math centres. On Monday we will be doing Daily 5!
Then it was time for PE.
After PE we had math, we looked at rounding to the nearest 10 and 100 again. We are practicing our steps to rounding which are:
1) Underline the place value of the value we are looking for
2) Look to the right next door!
3) Is it up to the sky line or down to the floor?
4) Change the next number up if it's to the sky line or keep it the same if it's down to the floor
5) The rest of the numbers turn 0
Then we split into groups to focus on rounding. One group worked on the textbook questions and the other worked on some guided practice questions before working independently. We used number lines to help us visualise which hundreds or tens we should round to.
After math we had first lunch and recess. Remember to get October lunch orders in!
After recess we had our spelling test! The two bonus words this week were:
-shook
-sold
Everybody in the class did very well!
Then we had music with Mr. Oliver and French with Mme. Stella.
Then we had second lunch and recess.
Then it was time for UOI! We looked at laws yesterday and students were able to remember that laws are rules we need to follow, and if we break them there is a consequence. We went through our classroom rules and reinforced the consequences when you break a rule.
We then looked at each other's laws from yesterday. We were respectful and celebrated our work with stars and a wish. Students were then asked to exercise their decision making skills as a group and decide on one law they want to pass to add to our classroom rules poster. They worked as a group to practice and present their law.
After the presentations and some time for reflection they votes anonymously (privately). The law that was passed was...
"We will be kind to our classmates, and use kinds word"
We have worded it so that it is positive rather than "don't use mean words."
Afterwards students were given golden time and Tribes time for 10 minutes to enjoy some time in the classroom.
Then we handed out agendas and got ready for home!
Have a lovely weekend, cheers!
