Alexa made a structure as part of action!
At this morning's assembly, Esha received her orange belt.
We worked on preparing for our Student-led conferences today after assembly and after first lunch.
For math today, we learned how to use two attributes to create patterns.
We reviewed what attributes means from our unit on sorting and data management- it is a way to describe an object such as colour, shape, size, thickness, and position with pattern blocks.
Students worked on making patterns with two attributes using pattern blocks, some of us started making patterns with three attributes which is tomorrow's lesson. As I circulated students identified the core that they made and the attributes they used in their pattern. The core is the part of the pattern that repeats.
For UOI today, we reviewed the definitions of what we have learned so far, students paired the definitions up and created posters for our display board with the definitions. We co-constructed what makes a successful poster and we came up with: the definition, the appropriate vocabulary, pictures, all group members sharing ideas and working together. Students worked together to complete this and after we watched a short video about stability and strength.
We discussed key points from the video which talked about the story of the Three Little Pigs and how the house with the straw wasn't stable or strong, the house with twigs also wasn't strong enough, and the house made with bricks had both strength and stability. We also talked about how some materials provide strength and stability such as bricks and cement. We will continue to investigate materials that provide stability and strength tomorrow.
After we discussed our project for next week. Students are asked to bring in a photo of a structure they are familiar with. They will research
information about their structure, including the materials used to build it,
it’s location and it’s function. Students will present their structure to the
class on Tuesday.
Have a wonderful night!
