Happy Monday!

Today's agenda notes are:

-Read for 20 minutes (on Raz-Kids or a hard copy)
-$1-$2 on Thursday for Sick Kids (Mr. Foster and Ms. Smith's grocery store!)
-Work on speeches (finish brainstorm)
-Math worksheet (digital clocks)
-Jump Rope for Heart package
-Spelling pg. 66-68

After we had Daily 5.

Then we went to PE with Ms. Yustin (please see above for the link to her blog)

After PE we had math: today we looked at telling time using a digital clock and matching it to the appropriate analog clock and phrases.

We started off reviewing that on a digital clock the number before the colon is the hour and the number after is the minute. We also learned that the minute must have two digits!

Today we had several activities to help us with telling time.

We started off in partners writing the digital time for an analog clock.

Then as a whole class we played our follow me game. Where students were given a card and had to say "I have 4:15 who has..." and the next student goes.

The fire alarm went off and we had to evacuate, please check your e-mails for a full notification from the school.

When we returned we went to lunch and indoor recess.

After recess we continued with our math activities.

One group had puzzles to match the analog clock to the digital time and the other two groups had to math the digital phrases, digital time, and analog clocks. Tomorrow the groups will switch and try the other group's activity.

Then we began to talk to about our novel study. We are reading 'Horrible Harry and the Holidaze.'
We talked about why we think holidaze is spelled incorrectly, and brainstormed what we already know about Horrible Harry's character.

After we made predictions about the story and wrote them on a sticky note and shared our predictions.

For French today we had our Jump Rope for Heart assembly. Packages have been sent home.

After second lunch, we discussed preparations for speeches and then did spelling. I was away for dismissal coaching our boy's basketball team.

This weeks spelling words are:

1) bunny
2) many
3) fry
4) only
5) lucky
6) by
7) tiny
8) penny
9) why
10) key

We are learning how the letter 'y' can team up with a,e,o to spell vowel sounds.

Can you think of other words that would match these ones? They could be our bonus words!

Then we got ready for home time.

Note about the fire alarm:

SJA staff did an amazing job evacuating the students safely and in a timely fashion from the building. Students were outside for ten minutes waiting in line while we followed proper protocol to ensure every child was accounted for. At this time, we then made our way over to Meadowvale rinks to have shelter from the cold. Once the fire department gave the go ahead we returned back to the building. There is no need for alarm or concern the building and students are safe and secure.
