Last Monday of October!

This morning's announcements included our month awards presentation. We celebrated the IB Learner profile: knowledgeable. Our winner this month is Rohaan!

Unfortunately, Rohaan was sick today.

Today's agenda notes are:

-Read for 20 mins
-Math worksheet
-Halloween tmw (wear Halloween costume or orange and black) - no weapon, scary costumes masks or facepaint) Candy can be distributed but not eaten at school
-Spelling pg. 38-40
-Recorder
-Math Unit test Thurs

Our morning work today was a Halloween themed math sheet using addition to find the hidden message.

After we went to PE with Mrs. Jans.

Today for math, we started our review for our test on Thursday. We reviewed all the concepts we hae learned this unit, which included:
-Patterns in addition and subtraction
-Related Facts
-Adding and subtracting double and triple digit numbers
-Mental math strategies for addition and subtracting
-Estimating

Three digit subtraction

We then started our review package. This package is in their pink folders but it is NOT for homework. We are working on it in class, but there is a subtraction worksheet for homework.

After math it was time for lunch and recess.

For language today we had our spelling lesson on the "long U" words. We started off with a list of words and students had to identify which words did not belong. This led into the discussion of the "long u" words. We realised these words include "u_ e", "ew", "ue", and "ou". Then we worked in our spelling books if they didn't finish it is for homework.

This weeks spelling words are:
1) rule
2) use
3) tune
4) mule
5) due
6) true
7) grew
8) few
9) you
10) cute

Then we went to music with Mr. Oliver, and French with Mme. Stella. We were interrupted in French by a fire alarm. All was okay, it was a practice!

Next, it was time for second lunch and recess.

For UOI today we identified items for immigration.

We talked about the Fort McMurray Fire and identified it as being an environmental push factor. We read a news article and video about what children brought with them and why.

Afterwards, we pretended to assume the role of an immigrant and identify 4 items we wanted to bring with us and explain why. I drew the suitcase on the board and explained that, that it is all they get to take with them. Many students explained that their stuffed animal would be something, some books, and some other special toys.

Then we handed out our agendas and got ready for home.
