-Math worksheet [table patterns]

After we had Daily 5.

Then we had PE with Miss Yustin.

For math today we looked at patterns in tables.

We displayed the following problem, Aryana is painting her fence, she can pain 3 sections every hour.
How many sections will be painted after 2 hours? 3 hours?

We discussed strategies to solve it, before learning about how to use a table.

We asked how do you know what the pattern rule is? How does the table help you organise the pattern?

Students then worked together to come up with their own patterns in tables.

Aryana and Rayna came up with

In one week, how many candies does Aryana eat if she eats 2 candies everyday. Great thought because we had to figure out that we needed to count the number of candies for 7 seven days.

Some student used subtraction such as Rohaan and Aashyra

Rohaan has 40 pencils and loses 3 pencils every week. How many pencils does he have after 5 weeks?

Then we did a few more problems, it's really exciting to see how excited students were to figure out patterns!

I drew stars on the board and students think, pair, shared how to describe the pattern rule and how many stars would be in row. They realised the pattern was increasing by 1 each time.

We did a few more problems, including patterns where the numbers multiply, and then worked on our worksheets.

Then we had first lunch and recess.

When we returned we had journal writing, student's tasks was to write a recount of their March Break, they were asked to use recount words, and use the appropriate writing conventions such as grammar, punctuation, capitals.

Then we had French with Mme. Stella.

For UOI today we learned about structures.

We started off reviewing what we learned yesterday about different materials and the four categories: (but there are other materials) wood, rubber, fabric, and metal.

We then looked at a tent and discussed what materials make up a tent.
Students came up with, fabric, metal, and plastic. Focusing on metal they were able to say the metal part keeps the tent up which leads into structures!

We asked how does this tent stay up; they already made the connection that the metal pole keeps it up, and this forms the frame. So the frame of on object supports the structure.

Students then shared real-life objects that have frames. Some responses were: cars, houses, buildings, and glasses.

We created the definition of structure using what we learned today. Structure is the support frame of an object.

We worked on finishing up journals before hometime.
